Art, History and My Life:
"Kiyooka Michiharu (Bayder-M) is a self-made Myanmar historian, archeologist and artist whose specializes in the area of the ancient Pyu history and culture. His first encounter with scent of Pyu history did not occur in Myanmar but in New York City. He purchased a few Pyu silver coins in an antique shop there in 1995. Ever since then, his life has strangely yet naturally led toward Myanmar. He paid his first visit to Myanmar in 1996. And in the very next year, he started researching Pyu ancient sites of Sriksetra and HalinBeilthano ruins by visiting Myanmar a few times.
The passion and curiosity to the ancient Golden Land made him decide to study the Myanmar language and history in the Yangon University of Foreign Language. After his graduation up until now, he keeps visiting and researching a number of Pyu historical ruins including Tagaung, MainmawWadhi, Beikthano, Sriksetra, Pagan and HalinSalin.
Therefore, it was indeed the great news that Myanmar’s first entry to UNESCO’s World Heritage was made with the Pyu ancient cities. In March 2014, Bayder-M decided to turn another passion of his life in action. He started learning painting under Sayar U Aung Si Thu Hlaing. Bayder-M is always a great fan of art and visited a number of museums and galleries all over the world. In October in the same year, he did an acrylic painting on canvas for the first time. And this was also the first time when he connected his two passions… history and art together.
Today, Bayder-M is expressing enthusiastically his discovery, imagination and illusion of Pyu through his colorful paintings, which allow us to share his vision of the glorious Pyu men and women in the ancient times."
