"BURMA: AN ENCHANTED SPIRIT"

Photo Exhibition & Book Launch featu

Gallery 65 is pleased to present a Photo Exhibition & Book Launch Event of "BURMA: AN ENCHANTED SPIRIT" featuring the photography of American photographer David Heath. Adventure photographer David Heath spent five years assembling an astonishing series of photographs of Burma (Myanmar) for this exhibit and new book. The exhibit will open on the 2nd of April until the 5th of April and the exhibit hours are from 10am to 6pm daily.

Traveling by canoe, plane, boat, train, on foot and hitching a ride on the occasional dump truck, photographer David Heath crossed some of the most remote Burmese terrain to capture the unique images found in the pages of this book. “I aspired to convey the soul of the beautiful Burmese people, their mystical culture and mysterious customs, in the most artistic way possible”.

The book notably includes a handwritten endorsement by renowned 1991 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, Burmese activist Aung San Suu Kyi, Chairperson of the National League for Democracy: "Truly an enchanting book - the pictures reflect the beauty and diversity of Burma faithfully."

Each leather bound oversized coffee table photo book contains an author’s introduction and dedication as well as a brief history of Burma inside its 248 pages. 13.75 by 10.5 inches. A percentage of sales from each book sold will be used to fund the building and development of a school in the city of Yangon.

ABOUT DAVID HEATH:

It was the desire for adventure that led David Heath to the world of artistic travel photography. Raised in Southern California, David is an avid surfer and skier, pursuits which have allowed him to spend what some might consider “a borderline-unreasonable amount of time outdoors.” Yet it was these activities that provided an intimate connection to the environment -- and ultimately compelled him to capture the stunning moments he witnessed each day.

David developed a career in the Environmental Engineering industry but it was during a trip to Europe in 1998 that he began taking pictures on a Canon AE-1 film camera, and very quickly discovered his true passion as a photographer. A multi-disciplinary talent, David is also an acoustic guitarist, and explains his visual approach to photography via this medium. “Much like a composer introduces dissonance into a melody, I try to incorporate patterns, textures and colors of all the elements surrounding the subject into my photographs.” David focuses not on the obvious, instead seeking out images that are distinctively emotional, drawing you into the moment. David has traveled through Bhutan, Nepal, Cambodia, Africa (Botswana, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Madagascar, Namibia, Morocco), Peru, Ecuador, the Galapagos Islands, the Maldives and Indonesia (West Papua, Borneo, Sumatra, Java), as well as several European countries. Each location has opened a new world of diverse photographic opportunities as he searches tirelessly for shots that express his appreciation for their unique and varying cultures.
