"A FOREIGN VIEW Solo Exhibit" (21st to 24th March, 2014)
Gallery 65 presents "A FOREIGN VIEW II" an art show by American Artist Gail Waterman for 2 days only. This is Gail's second Exhibition in Myanmar and the Exhibit will feature 45 paintings of the Artist's most recent works and the Gallery hours are from 10am to 6pm daily.
Statement by the Artist:
"I am a foreigner and this show is my view of Myanmar thus “A Foreign View II.” I came to Myanmar in August of 2004, not knowing what to expect of this country with a name unknown to me; a country rejected by my country. I have fallen in love with Myanmar, its’ wondrous people, and its’ world of art. Three years ago I had my first exhibit; a private viewing of my art work inspired by Myanmar.
As with Myanmar artists, the people, colors, patterns, textures and light of this country inspire me.
My artistic influences have been many, both Myanmar and American. The strong, bright, vibrating colors of the American artists Wayne Thiebaud and Chuck Close as well as various artists in the Pop Art movement can be seen in my art. Since childhood I have been intrigued by pattern, design and texture so when I was introduced to U Aye Myint’s BURMESE DESIGN THROUGH DRAWINGS I began incorporated my version of kanout designs into my art.
I hope not to offend any Myanmar person with my interpretation or misinterpretation of Myanmar, its’ people and its’ religion. Please excuse me if I do. I do not pretend to know this country well. After almost ten years the one thing I do know, is that I still have much to learn about Myanmar."
